Bull Run Quarry

This quarry has produced some excellent specimens of apophyllite, prehnite stilbite and calcite.  Molybdenite, sphalerite, and babingtonite have also been collected by the various members.

 

 

Powells Fort Mine

This mine is one of many mines along I-81 that produced manganese ore from manganite. It is an abandoned mine and rock speciments are collected from the mine dumps. The mine is located just to the east of Woodstock off Rt 758. Additional information about manganite may found from minddat.org. TerraServerUSA provides topographic and aerial photos of the area.
